Hi, thanks for stopping by my website. My name is Monique and my little slice of heaven is located in sunny Central Florida. I run this small little farm by myself, but receive huge support from husband.
I got into this hobby after visiting a neighbor who had baby chicks. I couldn't believe how cute they were. Within minutes of seeing the little fuzzies, I immediately started to daydream of life on an urban farm and not just any old farm...it would be mine! I quickly began putting a plan together on how I would convince my husband that we NEEDED to have chickens. I figured it was going to be a battle to gain approval to add more animals to the family, but as it turned out, he didn't need any convincing at all...he was on board immediately.
After going back and forth with how many chickens we would have, we finally agreed upon four. This seemed like a good number to me and a little coop was all I envisioned. We spent quite a bit of time looking at coops and within a week, a plan was sketched out. My image of a little coop (that I could possibly build myself) was replaced with a country cottage fit for more girls!
I have owned many different breeds through the years and currently have 60+ chickens in my flock. As far as breeding goes, my main focus is on Silkies and Cochins. I am a member of the APA and ASBC and breed to the Standards of Perfection set forth by each breed. My intention as a breeder is to provide quality birds. No matter if they are for showing purposes or simply pets.
Over time I have learned many lessons from housing, feeding, and chicken behaviors. And like everyone else out there who raises these great little creatures, I have experienced love and loss. Keeping chickens is truly a fun, rewarding experience and I wish that more people were aware of how great they are, as they have so much "personality" and are truly sweet animals.
